Jeff’s Farm Update: A new title with new tasks

As I write this, the feeling of spring is returning after what seemed to be a very long winter. I, like so many of you, had been cooped up inside for what seemed to be an eternity.

So as the warm weather returned last week, I headed outside to sit at our picnic tables and enjoy some sunshine. It was the perfect place to start the tasks that come with my new self-proclaimed title of “Taste Tester” for the new items that our farm kitchen and bakery team worked on during winter.

First, I tried the new meal Jonathan, Kate, and Kali teamed up to create: a curried veggie empanada. This Indian-inspired pocket has a subtle kick that is not too overwhelming. It’s terrific!

I’m already looking forward to the next item they want me to taste: their new galette made with mushroom and blue cheese. Considering how much I enjoy their first galette made with spinach and feta, my mouth is already watering at the thought of eating it.

So after an excellent entrée, I thought it was only responsible to sample a dessert. Pattie in our farm bakery had something for me to try: a new flourless peanut butter cookie, perfect for the gluten weary. It was soft, moist, and had tremendous flavor.

I suppose I should have had some of our freshly picked Moulton’s salad mix to round out my meal, but I admit I did not. My defense? The aroma of our freshly baked pies proved too much of a temptation. A slice of our blueberry pie was my choice.

Celebrate spring by stopping in at our farm market and taking home some of the many foods and spring flowers we have for you!
