This time of year, there is a faint buzz around the farm. The harvest from the field is winding down, the fields are getting put to bed for the winter, clean-up from another growing season is in full swing. The quick pace of summer and fall has slowed a little, which gives the crew a chance to breathe and take stock of what we just accomplished.
It was a challenging but successful growing season with a lot of hard work put in by everyone. Our hydroponic growing system is at full capacity and we will start harvesting fresh greens as the cold weather settles in. It is amazing, however, that we are still picking broccoli, cauliflower, and many greens from our fields.
Inside our farm market, there is an aroma of soups, meat pies, pumpkin pie, and apple crisp filling the market. Our farm kitchen and farm bakery team are also making many of the fall meals, side dishes, and fall salads that so many of you tell us you enjoy.
That buzz we are hearing is the anticipation of the holiday season that is coming fast. We have started taking Thanksgiving orders for fresh free range turkeys, pies, sides, and breads. Wreath decorating, gift basket and cookie platter supplies are arriving daily. In just a short couple of weeks, we will be headed to gather brush for our wreath making artists. Our poinsettias are still very green but on schedule in the warmth of our greenhouse.
Don’t forget to put your holiday orders in. Those first gatherings and celebrations will be here before we know it and that faint buzz will turn into a roar!
