John's Farm Update: We're ready and looking forward

With the spring of 2021 upon us, I am pleased to report that the farm team is ready and looking forward to the new season.

We have been fixing, changing, cleaning, painting, and organizing for weeks now. Eighty percent of last year’s crew will be returning for this season, and new members are joining our team. You will meet many of them through this newsletter and social media posts on our Facebook page and Instagram account. Our farm team is the BEST!

In our farm kitchen and farm bakery, an additional oven, new preparation equipment, and more staff will help Jonathan keep up with production demands and introduce some new dishes. Baker Karyn, also benefiting from more oven space, promises new ideas and plenty of raisin bread!

Our greenhouses are rapidly filling. After a long wait, Kyle, Ben, and Mikala were able to add another large growing bench to our hydroponic lettuce house. That means more of our greens and salad mixes for you to enjoy. In our extended season growing tunnel, our first harvest of overwintered spinach was picked in time for opening day!

We're eager to get working in our fields and know that many of you are eager to work in your gardens. Sue has promised more vegetables and annual transplants in our garden center. For those of you who want to start plants now, visit our farm market. We've got seeds and soils to help you get started.

Large and important pieces to our farm are the many events we host that bring our customers and staff together, forming important relationships between the farm and community. At this time in our planning process, we are going to continue to operate on a reduced event schedule. This is an effort to keep all of our team healthy, allowing us to focus and ensure good core farm operations.

Watch for more details to come on a few workshops with virtual options. Also, we are fairly sure that Wes will be designing and planting a corn maze for this fall.

Please stop by! We are open from 8 am to 5 pm seven days a week. Jeff and our farm market crew are ready to welcome and show you around. Under those masks, we are smiling and happy to be open for another season!
